Waterjet cutting has become very popular within the laser cutting sector. Waterjet cutting is is an industrial tool which many companies use to cut a wide variety of materials. It is a high-pressure jet of water, using a mixture of water and an abrasive substance.
There are two terms used when it comes to WaterJet cutting:
WaterJet Cutting: The term, WaterJet cutting, refers to a WaterJet which cuts through materials without adding abrasives. It is often used for softer materials, such as food and rubber. It was first used as an industrial cutting device in the 1930s, but it was only used to cut soft materials, such as paper. After the war ended, researchers around the world worked on different methods of how to improve cutting systems.

It wasn’t until 1958 that a system was created using high pressure liquid to cut through hard materials. Although this system wasn’t perfect, further research turned WaterJet cutting into what it is today – a very useful way for cutting both hard and soft materials.
AbrasiveJet Cutting: The term, AbrasiveJet, refers to the use of a mixture of water which is used to cut through hard materials such as metal or granite.
Both of these processes are frequently used during fabrications of machine parts. It is a preferred method for cutting materials which are sensitive to high temperatures.
WaterJet cutting is used in a variety of industries, such as, mining and aerospace for cutting, shaping and reaming materials.

Granite is a thick, heavy material and it can be hard to find a way of cutting it into the exact shape you want it. WaterJet cutting is frequently used to cut through hard materials such as granite making it easier to create certain shapes.
